There are 21 Englishmen and 19 Aussies in the IPL auction. India’s Jalaj Saxena will be the oldest at 39 years. A total of 37 players have a base price of ₹2 crores.
With exactly a week to go for the IPL 2026 auction, the Indian Premier League on Tuesday announced the list of 350 shortlisted players set to go under the hammer in Abu Dhabi on December 16.
The list comprises a total of 240 Indians and 110 overseas players. Of the 350, 112 are capped players. The pool comprises 224 uncapped Indian players and 14 uncapped overseas players. A total of 1390 players had registered for the player auction.
There is representation from nine other countries – Afghanistan (10), Australia (19), Bangladesh (7), England (21), Ireland (1), New Zealand (16), South Africa (15), Sri Lanka (12) and West Indies (9).
At 39, Jalaj Saxena will be the oldest player in the auction while Afghanistan’s Wahidullah Zadran is the youngest at just over 18 years.
Australia’s Cameron Green, Steve Smith, South Africa’s David Miller, Quinton de Kock and Indian cricketers Venkatesh Iyer and Ravi Bishnoi will be among the 37 players who are placed under the highest base price.
A few high-profile players like Glenn Maxwell and Faf du Plessis have opted to skip IPL 2026.
With a maximum squad size of 25 players, the franchises will compete to fill up a maximum of 77 available slots during the upcoming auction.
This will mark the third straight year that the IPL auction is being conducted outside India, with Dubai playing host in 2024 and Saudi Arabia’s Jeddah taking up the responsibility for the 2025 mega auction.
The date and venue for the upcoming auction were revealed after the IPL 2026 player retention window closed.
In total, 173 players, including 49 overseas cricketers, were retained by the 10 cricket teams combined.
All teams will have a combined purse of ₹237.55 crore to spend at the 2026 IPL auction.
Among the teams, Punjab Kings, last year’s runners-up, have opted for the most stability, retaining 21 players, while Gujarat Titans have held on to 20.
With the addition of two trade ins – Shardul Thakur and Sherfane Rutherford – five-time IPL winners Mumbai Indians have also filled 20 of the 25 available spots but will have only INR 2.75 crore – the least among all teams – to splurge at the auction.
Heading into the auction, Kolkata Knight Riders boast the largest remaining purse at INR 64.3 crore, with room for 13 new additions, including six overseas players. Chennai Super Kings follow with INR 43.4 crore in hand to fill nine vacancies in their roster.
At the IPL 2025 player auction, Rishabh Pant was signed by Lucknow Super Giants for ₹27 crore, becoming the most expensive player in IPL. The historic bid came shortly after Shreyas Iyer, the title-winning captain of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), was acquired by Punjab Kings for ₹26.75 crore for IPL 2025.
Mitchell Starc, acquired by Kolkata Knight Riders for the IPL 2024 season at ₹24.75 crore, is the most expensive overseas player.
